Join a CSA (Community Sponsored Agriculture) farm and enjoy the adventure of cooking and eating whatever’s fresh/local/organic and in season.
We’ve learned to like so many healthy things from our years of CSA membership: kale, collards, chard, leeks… just about everything but beets. Beets I stil hate, sadly. (Eul)

My Stop N Shop as well as a local fruit and produce market has a section of fruit and veggies that are a bit past their prime and/or slightly marked.
They are always cheap, cheap, cheap and they often throw in some of the organic stuff as well.
I always buy the apples I use for baking and applesauce there since they are usually only about $0.39/lb.
In fact, most stuff there is about $0.39/lb. (Thank you, KP)
